Moving into his fourth season working with bees, Stan has reached the Journeyman level of the North Carolina State Beekeepers Associations’ Master Beekeeper Program.  He manages the apiary at Durham Public Schools Hub Farm and the Durham County Beekeepers’ Club Apiary at Duke Campus Farm.

Stan is a nonprofit management professional who consults with human service agencies and systems. His time in an apiary and learning about bee behavior serves as a window into how we as humans might work in groups. The consensus process used by the honeybees in finding a home when they swarm or reproduce is a powerful lesson into how an organization can create a shared vision. The changing roles a worker bee has as she matures can help us understand how we as individuals support an organization and grow and change within that organization as well. He loves the lessons of the hive.

Stan Holt earned his doctorate in public administration at North Carolina State University in 2014.  He holds a master’s of public health degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a bachelor of science degree from Southwest Missouri State University.  Stan is an Adjunct Faculty member in the Public Administration Department at North Carolina Central University.  He currently serves as a Senior Advisor with Partners for Impact and has over 25 years of experience in non-profit management working with the United Way of the Greater Triangle, Genesis Home, the Piedmont Peace Project, the Institute for Southern Studies and the North Carolina Lesbian and Gay Health Project.
