REMOVALS & STUMP GRINDING

Our old school tactics leave a light footprint.

We conduct removals using tried-and-true, human labor-intensive approaches: climb-and-piece, rigging, and directional felling.

If we aren’t a good fit for your removal, we’ll share local referrals.

Removal is our least favorite prescription

We are not in the business of removing healthy trees.  This said, there are instances where removal is warranted.

While trees often have a longer lifespan than us humans, they do get sick and die, or suffer irreparable storm damage.  We often remove trees that are dead standing, structurally compromised, or in a health decline from which they will not recover.

We also remove exotic invasive species.  In support of natural forest succession, we may remove early successional species to mitigate competition and favor the growth of late-successional species.

When necessary, we remove specimens that will be impacted by new construction or to clear an area for other agricultural uses.

Post-removal practices

We encourage the repurposing and recycling of woody debris resulting from our operations.

This may include conducting a partial removal to render a snag tree for wildlife, leaving the rounds stacked on site for firewood or other repurposing, or bucking the debris into logs and connecting you with a sawmill operator.

Any debris we remove from your property is trucked to Gorilla Materials, Inc., a Durham company who recycles it into wood chips and other by-products so that it can be used again rather than dumped in a landfill.

We handle stump grinding a bit differently than other companies.

Rather than tend each client’s stumps separately, we instead host periodic Stump Fest days on which we batch stump grinding jobs.

During Stump Fest, we charge an all-inclusive sliding scale fee for utility location, labor, equipment, materials and debris removal and recycling based on the number, species, and size of the stumps to be ground.  Our work also includes backfilling and finishing.

After removal, we can assist with replanting as much or as little as you need.

We can make suitable species suggestions, introduce you to local nurseries, and share information on best planting practices.

We also offer full establishment services.  We vet local plant stock in January and our primary planting season runs from February through early April.
